Camden street style #14: Jumpsuits and monochrome dresses
Tuesday, 10th June 2014

Anish Abeysekera has just graduated from a civil engineering degree and is out for a spot of shopping in Camden Town. The 21-year-old from Kingston is wearing a T-shirt from the Keith Haring collection at UNIQLO and jeans from Topman, topped off with a hat with a feather in it that he has just bought from Camden Market. When it comes to clothes, Anish says: “The darker the better.”
Taylor Gymer is wearing a coral-coloured top from Mango with relaxed black trousers from H&M and a gold belt from ASOS. Finished off with shoes from Warehouse and a Michael Kors watch, the 20-year-old from London describes her look as “classic with a twist”. Taylor, who works in the designer clothes section in Selfridges, says she can’t resist a bit of shopping nearly every lunchbreak. Her advice when it comes to fashion is: “Absolutely anything goes, you can clash prints and you can clash colours as long as it looks good.”
Amber Mapp, 18, just moved to south London from Bermuda in August – she says the capital is a lot busier than where she used to live, but she likes it because she is really into fashion and there is plenty of that around here. She said she finds the area rather “inspirational”. Amber, a media student at UEL, is wearing a T-shirt dress with Kurt Cobain on it from H&M, teamed with a tan-coloured belt from a thrift shop, a vintage denim jacket, sunglasses from Forever 21, and Doc Martens. Her friend made her the gold necklace she is wearing, which perfectly complements her “laid back, urban look”. Amber shared her best style tip: “A belt fixes everything.”
Emily Stead, 23, a sales consultant from Angel, Is wearing a Topshop leather jacket over a check-print monochrome dress from Miss Selfridge, along with some sandals from Zara and a big Michael Kors bag, with a “genuine fake” Rolex to add a bit of sparkle. She has chosen the outfit for the “summery” yet “rather cold weather” in Camden this week. Emily said that when picking an outfit, the best thing to do is match it with your mood.
Hannah Twelvetrees is wearing a jumpsuit from Urban Outfitters with a cardigan from Tesco and a statement necklace from Zara. The 19-year-old from Guildford is in town to see the Hudson Taylor gig at Electric Ballroom with her friend. She said that when it comes to fashion, you should “go original” and not just stick to the traditional way of wearing trends.
Emma Hiley, a student at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford on a production course, has dressed up for a gig in Camden Town. She is wearing a leather jacket that she picked up on ASOS, patterned trousers and a black top from Monki, and a hat from ASOS, with brown shoes from Office and a bright yellow necklace from Zara. Emma says her look is that of a “steezy don” – someone who shows off style with ease. The 21-year-old says she is “buzzing” for the show she’ll be going to see.
